Metal Finishing Plant and Equipment – Example Applications

This page contains just a few of the many applications that can be handled by our metal finishing plant and equipment, to find out more contact us or call us in the UK on +44(0)2920 317688.

Shaping and Forming (removing a stress point)

A typical application of ECM - is to create chambers or contours with different shapes into the work pieces.

  • The cathode stands statically in the work piece
  • The machining time is normally between 15 and 100 seconds

See the slideshow for an example of a machined work piece:

Polishing

The ECM polishing process uses very short current pulses with a maximum voltage of 60V DC required to reach a high current density.

  • The length of the pulses begins at about 50µs and are completely monitored and controlled.
  • The cathode does not move during processing.
  • The machining time is normally between 10 and 30 seconds.

See the slideshow for an example of a polished feature.

Drilling and Sinking

During the ECM sinking process the cathodes will be moved by a NC- or a hydraulic axis in or into the work piece. The speed of the axis is normally between 10 and 50µm per second. With this process it is possible to build a connection between two bores inside a work piece. It is also possible to build exact contours inside or outside a work piece.

  • The accuracy of the contour is in a range of a few µm.
  • The machining time is normally between 17 and 300 seconds.
